David Popejoy, Chief Technical Officer
Mr. Popejoy is an accomplished IT professional, developer and leader as demonstrated in his role with Safeway, Inc., a fortune 50 company and in his previous endeavors. At Safeway, Mr. Popejoy managed all aspects of IT, including development, infrastructure, support, planning and budgeting for Safeway.com, Safeway's online division. Preceding his role with Safeway, Mr. Popejoy was the director of web technology with Grocery Works, an internet grocery start-up that was jointly acquired by Safeway and the world's fourth largest retailer, Tesco, PCL of England. At Grocery Works, Mr. Popejoy integrated the e-commerce and fulfillment systems of two of the world's largest retail companies within a demanding four month time frame. Additionally, as head of software development, he made numerous enhancements to increase system performance, stability and overall website usability. Mr. Popejoy was a software architect with Gamestop Corp. and has worked as a consultant in software development and IT services. Mr. Popejoy received a B.A. in Communications and Psychology at Stanford University in 1995 and was a member of the United States Olympic Track and Field Team in 1996 and the United States National Track and Field Team from 1993 to 1997.
